In her posts, Melody showed the accident scene, revealing several damaged cars. According to her account, a travel bus collided with the rear of the van she was in with her team. Her sister, also a singer, Bella, was in the vehicle. The accident occurred on the Rio de Janeiro-bound lane at km 290.
“It was a travel bus. It hit us and dragged all the cars,” she stated. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the crash involved seven vehicles. Traffic in the area flowed only on the shoulder, causing a 10 km long traffic jam. By around 7:30 PM, drivers were still facing 5 km of congestion.
“Shortly before the accident involving Melody’s van, there had been another accident further ahead, which caused traffic to become congested. The van stopped in this traffic jam, and a bus coming from behind couldn’t stop, colliding with the rear of the van and pushing it into a truck. Other vehicles were also involved in the pile-up, causing only material damage,” explained federal highway officer Carlos André Nogueira Fernandes.
According to the federal highway police, Melody and four other unidentified individuals were rescued by an emergency team and taken to Santa Casa. The singer stated she had back, head, and finger pain. In a new story, she appears receiving care inside an ambulance. Part of her team also suffered minor injuries.
